QUALITY CONTROL – REJECTION COTTAGE PROJECT
The first rejection I experienced as an artist was when my friend and I, living in The High on Streatham High Road looking to make a bit of extra money signed up to paint 40 plaster cottages each. It took longer than expected, but we completed them to what we believed was a high standard and sent them off and awaited our cheques. A few days later, I received an envelope, but inside rather than a cheque was a small red card with an unhappy face stamp saying my cottages had all failed quality control and I was not to be paid any money.
As part of my REJECTIONS exhibition in January 2027 at the Pennie Gallery, I would like to recreate this concept. I have made plaster cottages, two of which are shown shown below and would like to open this as a collaborative piece. If you would like to paint a cottage, as well or as badly as you like, in whatever colours or paint or other material so long as it isn't the shit of any animal, please send me a message, I will give you a cottage or send you a cottage in the post and we can then present them all at the exhibition, in approximately 6 months time.
