GIRLS WITH A KITTENS
There were a lot of plywood squares (85mm x 85mm) left from cutting the holes in the Sunset Lexicon table. As a life long fan of Lucien Freud, in particular his early paintings with their microscopic flyaway hairs and flat colours, and even more in particular the painting Girl With A Kitten, I thought I might appropriate the basic composition and in certain cases, the girl and sometimes the kitten, and make a series of Gouache paintings. I had 170 pieces of wood, but before long I became annoyed with the paint. Why is is so wet? I would howl at the studio wall. Why won't it go where it is supposed to? I quietly abandoned the project, hoping that no-one would remember I had ever started it.
