1000 Aeroplanes began when I bought a copy of Airplanes of the World by Douglas Wolfe from a charity shop. Rather like Tom Philips and his Humument, I began tippexing over the original drawings, doing one or two whenever I felt like it. During the summer break between years 1 and 2 in 2023, I decided I would amend every illustration in the book. It took three months, give or take, and I began to see it as a method to access my unconscious mind. By the end of it I had pretty direct access. I felt like Jim Woodring's character Frank when his head splits into two and he has about twelve eyes. Later on I converted some of the ideas in the book into sculptures.

The entire set of drawings were exhibited in The Street and Bath Spa University's Locksbrook Road campus from 30th September until 11th October 2024. The drawings were printed on A6 postcards in a 50 x 20 grid measuring 8 x 2.5 metres. After the exhibition, I sold the original drawings and sent the money, around £270 to the charity Warchild. Thanks if you bought a drawing.
